Paleo Dig Pit Mural

August 2010--"Paleo Dig Pit" Project
(painted outside in the August Arizona heat...)

This mural is located at the Mesa Museum of Natural History in Mesa, AZ.  It is painted in the "Paleo Dig Pit" exhibit, where kids can dig for a dinosaur skeleton.  When the exhibit was being planned, there was a large electrical box in the area, which was white and out of place.  I designed the 3 doors to be field lockers that paleontologists might have on their location.  Filled with bones and tools, it adds a lot of interest and fun.

This was my initial drawing for the idea of the field lockers.  In order to keep the individual elements of the mural to scale, I edited the image and printed each item in its "real" size, hence keeping the mural to scale with the drawing.

Silly Dino Cartoon "taped" to a door. If you look closely (click on image) you can see the dirty thumbprints where the "paleontologist" may've touched the "paper" and "tape".
